Copying in the exams needs daring along with the skills. It’s not for novices. Today morning a scene from SSC exams flashed back in my mind and it was an interesting experience. The seating arrangement was different for a few of us s we had Technical optional subject. The friend of mine sitting in front of me was not much intelligent. For him passing was the first hurdle that he should cross. So this guy was well prepared with all the copying material with him. People like him are really courageous as they don’t have a smidgeon of fear on their faces when they copy from chits that they are carrying in front of supervisors, great damn fellows… So I was watching this guy copying with impunity in almost all papers.
It was History and civics paper one day. I had not prepared well for civics (or might be I had prepared well but then there was something in the paper that I was not able to answer). Till that time my senses were not allowing me to copy in the exams, but fear of getting less marks or the greed of getting a few more marks prompted me to try it out. I approached the guy. They are very helpful when someone asks them for one of the chits that they are carrying. So this guy handed me out a chit happily. I was happy and quite feared at the same time having the chit in my hand. Being not used to properly copying from the chit without someone noticing me, the supervisor understood that there is something wrong with this guy. She stared at me and then all of a sudden she started walking fast towards me screaming “Yes, you… what’s there is your hands? Hold it”. I threw the chit of the paper in the drawer of the table in the confusion.
Now here I was, with a veil of fear spreading on my face, hundreds of thoughts zapped through my mind.
“It’s over…….”
“She is going to complain to the head of the exam…”
“Will I be debarred…?”
“For how many years….?”
“What about the dreams of scoring well in the exam…?”
Then from one of the corners of the classroom a girl stood up and asked for supplement. She almost shouted, “Supplement madam”. Her shouting made the supervisor stop and think for a while, “Should I finish up with this boy first or go to the girl first”. I must have done someone a good in the morning that god was happy with me to made her go to the girl first, still keeping a watch on me. Nevertheless I found time to get hold of the chit and pass it back to my friend and thanked the god a thousand times for saving me, though I was acquitted of the crime yet.
After the supplement business the supervisor came to me.
“There was a piece of paper you were copying from, where is it?”
“No madam, I don’t have any piece of paper”
“I have seen it, you threw it in the drawer, Let me check the drawer”
I gave her way and she checked the drawer and surprised at finding nothing in it. She went away looking at me and I looked at her joyously as if I had won a great battle against her. And I learned that copying in the exams needs skills and it’s not for novices.
